Anyone who joins AIRCO between February 1 and March 31 is eligible to win a game from the Inflatable Store/Ninja , Huffer Amusements or PartyZone Sales or one of TWO indoor bouncers donated by Magic Jump, not to mention a lifetime free listing in the Moonwalk Rental Directory!

Effective Advertising with Pay Per Click

Google

By Scottie Claiborne ©2006

Get More Business for Dollars a Day

Are you confused by the options out there for website marketing? It's not surprising. Most people get emails every day promising them thousands of visitors to their websites for just $29.95 a month. It's hard to know what to believe! However, paid search advertising is an amazingly affordable way to get your ad in front of potential customers in your area. It's worth taking the time to learn more about it.

Paid Search Advertising Programs

The only "real" paid search programs out there worth your money are Google AdWords or Yahoo Local Paid Search. The rest of the pay-per-click engines out there are not worth joining, even if they cost less. If you've never heard of it, chances are, neither has anyone else!

Should You Use a Professional?

Some of our members have been contacted by firms offering to set up and run a PPC program at no charge. They can do this because Google typically pays an agency fee to them to run these programs, so it's not bad if you want to give it a shot.

However, remember that firms are paid based on how much you spend, so it's in their best interest to get you to spend more. If that increased spend gains you more clients, then it's worth it. A good firm will continue to find top converting phrases and track them for you, however unless you have a big budget, it's not likely to be cost-effective for them to give you detailed service.

Setting Up Your Own Campaign

Give it a shot, it's not that hard! Simply follow the directions and each program will guide you through setting up an account. Here are some general tips:

  • Pick Your Keywords
What are people likely to be searching for who would want to hire you? Moonwalk, bounce house, concessions, popcorn, inflatable slide, etc. Use the Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool or Keyword Discovery's Free Trial to give you a relative idea of the more popular keywords.
  • Set Your Budget
$5 a day or $50 a month? $5000 a month? Whatever your budget, no matter how low or how high, you can control what you want to pay for each click. The highest bids will be the ads shown first, but in most markets, your bid prices will be pretty low as very few moonwalk rental companies are really involved in PPC advertising yet. You can get clicks for as little as 5 cents.
  • Narrow Your Campaign to Local Searches
THIS IS CRITICAL! You only want your ads shown to people in your delivery area, and today's PPC providers allow you to set that. If you don't limit your campaign, people across the country will click your ads and waste your money. Sure, it's possible that Grandma in Peoria is researching a moonwalk rental for little Bobby in Pasadena, but not enough that you want to pay for useless clicks to get the occasional worthwhile click. Listing in the Moonwalk Rental Directory will help catch those people as well as optimizing your site for "editorial" searches.
  • Write Your Ad
You have very few words to work with here, so make them count. Consider writing different ads for different search phrases... if someone is looking for an Obstacle Course, you want your ad to say something like "We Rent Obstacle Courses" instead of just "Bob's Fun Hoppers". You want your ad to BE exactly what the searcher is looking for. This takes more time, but it well worth the effort.
  • Link the Ad to the Most Appropriate Page
Sure, it's a heck of a lot easier to link all your ads to the home page, but why make customers work to find what they want? If they want an obstacle course, link them straight to the obstacle course page. If they want a popcorn machine, link them to the popcorn machine page.
  • Measure, Test and Adjust
The coolest thing about online advertising is the ability to measure the response. And yet most people don't bother to do it! Use the tools provided by the PPC providers to determine what the most popular phrases are, which phrases get the most conversions (IE, calling or filling out a reservation form) and which phrases are costing you money but not bringing business. Try different ads and see what works better! It's simple to change your ads and you can do it any time.

Downpour Derby

Downpour Derby is Buckets of Fun

By Michael Reigel ©2006

From the makers of Pitchburst and Boom Blaster comes an exciting new game that is making a "SPLASH" in the amusement rental industry. Downpour Derby from WhirlWhims LLC is a competition style game in which the winner laughs and the loser gets soaked! Two players each pump the handle of their manual water pump. Water is pumped into a pivoting three gallon bucket located over your opponents head. The player who fills their bucket first is rewarded by watching the bucket tip and spill it's contents onto his/her opponent.

The Downpour Derby consists of eight pieces and is very portable. The entire unit weighs less than fifty pounds and can easily be setup and taken down by one person in less than ten minutes. It is built to last, made out of powder-coated aluminum and galvanized steel. Water can be drawn from any fresh water source or the optional ten gallon molded polyethylene self-refilling tank for use with a garden hose.

The cost of the Downpour Derby is $1199.00. There are various packages available that include accessories and marketing materials at a discounted rate. For example, the "Starter Package" comes with the Downpour Derby game, ten gallon tank and the carrying bag set for only $1407.77, a savings of $139.23. You can save an additional $150-$250 if you also buy a Boom Blaster or Pitchburst package.

Save even more with an AIRCO forum group buy! Your order must be placed by March 20 to qualify.

Downpour Derby Game
  • If AIRCO sends 10 orders, each Starter Package set will be only $1099
  • If AIRCO sends 20 orders, each Starter Package set will be only $999
  • If AIRCO sends 30 order, each Starter Package set will be only $949

See full details on how to order the Downpour Derby or other Whirlwhims games.

Downpour Derby gets my highest recommendation! It's an original game that is sure to be this seasons hottest item!

Starting a Bounce Business: Two Perspectives

We've got a new series starting with this newsletter- we are following 2 brand new companies on their journey to start their own business. It might remind you of when you started or it might encourage you to get started, if you haven't already. This feature will span several months as we keep up with these companies' excitement and struggles through their first season.

This first pair of articles show 2 different approaches to getting in the business. One emotional, one practical, but both have kids at the heart of the business.

Party Magic

Bob from JollyJumpZ had a revelation after struggling with a pickup moonwalk for his daughter's birthday from a local company. Why not start a business that delivered moonwalks so parents didn't have to struggle? He got over the "fever" in 2002 but discovering AIRCO in 2005 fired up his entreprenuerial spirit again.

A Practical Approach

Vinny the Vin Man Rutigliano knows a good business opportunity when he sees it. As the former owner of a family fun center, he knew he wanted to do something on the weekends entertaining kids. His detailed research let him to inflatable rentals, but he didn't jump in with both feet until he did his homework!

A. Easy! Download the application, fill it out and fax it in.

Wrap Up

North Carolina Regulatory Meeting

I had the opportunity to attend the North Carolina required meeting for inflatable rental companies last week, and it was well worth the trip. I met some great people, had an awesome dinner with AIRCO buddies, and got to talk about our goals at AIRCO to potential members.

Regulation is often seen as "stifling" or "restrictive" and North Carolina is pretty darn strict. However, after attending the meeting and listening to the speaker and the audience members, I have to say, kudos to North Carolina on putting so much effort into our industry. They aren't overseeing us to hold us down, they are overseeing inflatables to help us do well and run a safe operation. I found their guidelines to be reasonable and fairly flexible and I was impresssed at the level of detail and the Department of Labor's willingness to help inflatable rental companies. They agreed to communicate with local fire marshalls, schools and parks to help promote certified companies and pledged to respond quickly to reports of non-compliant companies. Read my review of the North Carolina Inflatable meeting here. They had wi-fi and I actually took notes while the meeting was in progress!

My favorite point was after the speaker had gone on for several minutes about the flame retardant vinyl requirement, a member of the audience asked how many inflatables had caught on fire in North Carolina. The speaker replied, none, that he was aware of.
